River City Academy Summer Program

July 22-August 9, 2019

River City Academy offers a summer experience consisting of 1-3 weeks of intensive instruction and fun activities in our River Readers and Mathletes programs. Both courses are provided each day with the options of a fun lunch mid-day, early arrival, and late pick-up.

Students may enroll in both courses, or one course, for either 1-3 weeks. Three full weeks are recommended for maximum success.

River Readers

River Readers offers our students the opportunity to dive into reading by focusing on fluency, comprehension, and problem-solving in a way that is dynamic, exciting, and individualized. During each 3-hour class, students will have opportunities to practice in these key areas through a student-driven approach that works to identify areas of strength and need throughout each week. As the student excels, the course content advances for that student. As the student needs more remedial attention, more is provided using individualized strategies. By centering the instruction around the student’s needs, progress is achieved in key reading areas. Further, throughout the course, the students will have the chance to work in pairs and small groups, and will use engaging materials to allow students to move, interact, and experience reading in a new way.

Fun Lunch

From 12-1 each day, students may sign up to attend Fun Lunch in which 30 minutes are provided for lunch and relaxation followed by 30 minutes of an organized recreational activity. The recreational activity will consist of an interactive game using the campus fields, a focused exercise activity such as mindfulness, yoga or martial arts, or an on-site activity such as an indoor game.

Mathletes

Mathletes offers our students the opportunity to jump into math by focusing on fluency and problem-solving in a fun way that brings new function and meaning to the subject. During each 3-hour class, students will have opportunities to practice key math skills through our student-driven approach which works to identify areas of strength and need throughout the week. As the student excels, the course advances so that the student may work on new challenges. As the student needs more remedial attention, individualized strategies are used to ensure success is reached. By centering the instruction around the student’s needs, progress is achieved in key math areas. Further, throughout the course, the students will have the chance to work in pairs and small groups, and will use engaging materials to allow students to move, interact, and experience math as fun, meaningful, and functional.

Early Arrival & Late Dismissal

RCA Summer Camp will open 1 1/2 hours early for drop off and 1 hour late for pick up. During these times, structured games and activities, such as what is described in the Fun Lunch section, will be provided to the students.
